The 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal recently opened up about his son’s interest in tennis. He revealed that his son had already shown an interest in the sport, as he was fascinated by the tennis racket. The former World No. 1 stated that the little boy found the equipment rather “amusing”.
Nadal was blessed with a baby boy with his wife, Maria Francisca Perello, on October 8 last year. The duo welcomed the child on their native island of Mallorca.
The 37-year-old player spoke about it in a recent interview with Movistar Plus+ on Monday, September 18. The tennis legend was asked whether he had ever held a real tennis racket, even if it was merely for photographs.
The Spanish star answered that his son had never held an original racket. However, on one occasion, he did hold a tiny racket at his tennis academy. Nadal said that he found it quite entertaining.
He said, “No, he went one day to the academy and held a tiny racket because he found it amusing but in the same way he finds spoon funny.”

Rafael Nadal reveals his comeback plans
Rafael Nadal finally spilled the beans on his much-awaited comeback. However, it is news that his fans weren’t expecting. Nadal has been on an extended break due to injuries since the Australian Open in 2023. He recently went under the knife to recover from his longstanding hip injury. The Spaniard had not specified his comeback date clearly when he took the break. The fans have been eagerly waiting for his return to the sport.
In the interview with Movistar Plus+, he revealed that though he wants to play in the Australian Open and French Open, he no longer harbors aspirations to win them. He feels that all of it is too far away for him at this stage in life. The tennis star also added that nothing is impossible in sports, but winning Grand Slam tournaments is not his aim now.
“Yes, I would like to play again and be competitive again, but the dream is not to come back and win Roland Garros or win Australia, so that people don’t get confused, right?”
