Carlos Alcaraz
World No. 9 Carlos Alcaraz continues to show his brilliance as he moves into the finals of the 2022 Madrid Open. The teenager defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals and followed it with a 3-set win over World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals to become the first player ever to defeat the two greats in a clay event.
Alcaraz was up against the Serbian for the first time and has drawn the blood in the head-to-head after playing a thriller at the Caja Magica to make it to his 4th finals of the season with three titles already to his name. Days after turning 19-years old, the Spaniard has beaten Nadal and Novak on successive days and one can surely say he is in the form of life.
“It means a lot to me” Carlos Alcaraz after beating Novak Djokovic

Up against him in the finals will be defending champion and World No. 3 Alexander Zverev who is looking for his first finals of the season having lost earlier in the finals in Montepellier. With a lot at stake for both players, Carlitos, as he likes to be called, is already looking ahead to the 2022 French Open where he is eyeing his first-ever Grand Slam title having become one of the title favourites after his sensational form on Clay so far.
“It feels great, it means a lot to me [to beat Djokovic]. It means the hard work I do every day means a lot to me. I’m ready to play in Roland-Garros. I think I’m able to get great results in Grand Slams so I’m thinking of tomorrow for the final. But after this tournament, I think Roland-Garros is a good challenge for me.
“It’s a bit different [playing five sets]. Playing best-of-five means more time on the court, you have to be more focused during more time and playing these types of players is tougher, but we are ready,” said Alcaraz in his interview with Eurosport ahead of Sunday’s finals in Madrid against the German.
