“Reminds me of a crying Federer” Twitter solaces with Ons Jabeur as visuals of her ‘inconsolably crying’ surface online after US Open final loss
Ons Jabeur and Roger Federer
It was curtains once again for Tunisian ace Ons Jabeur as she lost the final of the 2022 US Open to World No.1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets 2-6,6-7(5) to settle ‘second best’ for the second consecutive time in a major final. She has been one of the most consistent players in the last few months and even reached the Wimbledon final where she shockingly lost to Elena Rybakina.
This time at the US Open, she wasn’t the favorite in the final unlike Wimbledon but despite putting up a brave fight, couldn’t cross the finish lines against an inspired Swiatek. Jabeur has now lost 4 out of the 6 finals she has contested this year out of which two are grand slam finals. One has got to feel for the Arab woman given the struggles she has had to endure coming from a comparatively tougher part of the world.
She is one of the nicest people on tour and is friendly with everyone. Her joyous personality attracts everyone and hence she is also one of the most loved and adored people on the WTA tour. Even after losing the final against Swiatek, Jabeur was very gracious in defeat and heavily praised Swiatek, and delivered a very classy speech to finish things.
But despite putting on a brave face, Jabeur’s soft side came out when she went into the dugout after the trophy ceremony. Visuals came out where Jabeur was seen vigorously crying with her team as they consoled the wounded warrior.
Tennis fans unite to show sympathy towards Ons Jabeur
Tennis fans on social media couldn’t help but sympathize with Jabeur and her grace. They consoled her and lauded her for having a great tournament. Many fans even got on to the Jabeur hype train for Wimbledon next year. Some even compared her crying visuals to that of Swiss maestro Roger Federer after he lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2009 Australian Open final.
