Rennae Stubbs wants noise around Novak Djokovic’s vaccination status against Covid-19 to stop
Rennae Stubbs praised Novak Djokovic for breaking Steffi Graf's 26-year-old record as the player to spend most weeks as World No.1.
Novak Djokovic and Rennae Stubbs
Australian tennis legend Rennae Stubbs believes that everyone must move on from Novak Djokovic‘s vaccination status. The vaccination status of the Serbian was a major talking point last year as he had to miss out on two Grand Slam tournaments.
He was deported from Australia just a day before the Australian Open 2022 was scheduled to start over ambiguity on his vaccination status against Covid-19. He also had to miss out on the chance to participate in the US Open 2022 as he was not double-vaccinated against Covid-19 as was the rule.
However, this year he got the chance to play in Australia and won the Australian Open men’s singles title. This impressed Rennae Stubbs, who believes that the vaccination issue of Novak Djokovic has taken thankfully, a backseat.
“Thankfully, let’s hope it’s the end of it because by May this will not be a conversation anymore we ever have to talk about and I’m so f**king over talking about it. I’m so over talking about Novak and his vaccine status and the country and I think it’s dumb at this point as well. Just let him in, like let’s go. I’m honestly so over both sides at this point. I’ll be really frank,” she said in one of recent podcast episode of The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast.
She also complimented the current World No.1, who broke Steffi Graf‘s long-standing record of spending most weeks as World No. 1.
“Let’s give Novak some credit here. 378 weeks at world number one. He passed the Steffi Graf as the most ever player that has held the number one ranking. So, you know, that in and of itself is unbelievable considering how much he shot himself in the foot over the last few years with this vaccine stuff,” she continued.

Novak Djokovic wants to win an Olympic Gold medal
The 35-year old has won several tournaments across the world in his long and glorious career. He has got 22 Grand Slam men’s singles titles and numerous other records to his name. However, even after multiple shots at glory, he has not been able to win an Olympic gold medal for his country Serbia. But he did win a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games men’s singles event.
In a media interaction on the sidelines of the Dubai Tennis Championships, Novak Djokovic talked about his desire to win an Olympic gold medal. He thinks he will be able to do it at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
“Well, desire has been always there. I mean, without desire, I feel like there’s no motion in any sense of that word. So I always try to be very clear with myself what the goals are, what I want from tennis, competitive tennis,” he said.
