Republicans back Novak Djokovic, call on President Biden to end vaccine mandate
Despite being surrounded by controversies the majority of the time due to his unvaccinated status, which has forced him to miss many tournaments, Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian recently won the 21st Grand Slam of his career after defeating Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon. Djokovic makes the most of the events he does play at.
Only Rafael Nadal has won more Grand Slam tournaments than the Serbian, who is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time (22). Following his victory at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, Djokovic passed Roger Federer in terms of total titles with 20. Due to his lack of vaccinations, it is almost impossible for him to participate in this year’s US Open.
Republicans call for the end of the vaccine mandate in a show of support for Novak Djokovic
Louie Gohmert, a Republican congressman from Texas, wrote to President Joe Biden on Monday to urge him to abolish the requirement for vaccinations for foreign visitors to the United States.
The Serbian-born professional tennis player Novak Djokovic is mentioned in the letter, which was first received by the Daily Caller, and how the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement for international passengers may prevent him from competing in the 2022 U.S. Open. The legislators contend that the vaccine mandate is unneeded, anti-American, and against science.
“Novak Djokovic overcame war and threats of starvation to become one of the world’s top tennis players, if not the top player. Yet, now it appears he may not be able to overcome the Biden Administration’s cold, heartless, malevolent, scientifically oblivious mentality in order to compete in the 2022 U.S. Open,” said Gohmert before sending the letter.
