World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has had such tremendous form in the last season that only a couple of players on the women’s tour could rival her. The 21-year-old won two Grand Slam titles, one at the French Open and the other at the US Open. Świątek accumulated a 37-match winning streak, the longest on the WTA Tour in the 21st century.

In the current season, all her fans are expecting her to replicate the success of last season this time too. Swiatek’s performance on hardcourts makes her a big favorite for the 2023 Australian Open, scheduled to start next week. As the sun will be at its brightest in Australia during the Slam, Swiatek too is ready to bask in the glory by clinching her maiden crown in the season’s first Grand Slam.

After the First Round, the Pole will meet Colombian Camila Osorio Serrano or Hungarian Panna Udvardy in the Second Round, where she will expect to sail through easily. Subsequently, in the Third Round, last year’s semifinalist will face the challenge of the 25th seed, Marie Bouzková. Afterward, in Round Four, the 29-year-old American Danielle Collins is most likely to lock horns with Swiatek.

After the Fourth Round things will get a bit tougher for the World No. 1. In the Quarterfinals American teenager and the ASB Classic’s winner Coco Gauff will test the resolve of the Pole. Getting past Gauff’s challenge will not come easy for Swiatek.

If things indeed go according to Swiatek’s plans, third-seeded Spanish star Jessica Pegula is likely to be her opponent in the semifinal clash. The win there will lead Swiatek just one step away from her first title in Melbourne. Swiatek will face either Tunisian World No. 2 Ons Jabeur, Adelaide International champion Aryna Sabalenka, or French fourth seed Caroline Garcia in the Australian Open final.

Iga Swiatek’s expected road to the final:

  • 1R: Jule Niemeier
  • 2R: Camila Osorio Serrano/Panna Udvardy
  • 3R: Marie Bouzková
  • 4R: Danielle Collins
  • QF: Coco Gauff
  • SF: Jessica Pegula
