With the Paris Masters down the corner, the draws and the lineups have already been released with the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic yet again going into the tournament as the top-seeded player. With defending champion Holger Rune desperate to defend his title this week, it would take something more than his usual game to stop Nole from registering yet another title win.
Being the top-seeded player Novak has been handed a bye walkover in the very first round of the Paris Masters with him expected to start his campaign against the winner of the match between his countrymate Miomir Kecmanovic and Tomas Etcheverry. Following that he is likely to be facing Ben Shelton in what is expected to be a rematch of the recently played US Open semifinals.
In the quarter-finals, it would be the Danish star, Holer Rune, or the American Express, Taylor Fritz. And if Novak manages to go past all these young guns, he would still have to potentially beat the winner of Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev in the semis against whom he has a wonderful record. And then as everyone would expect, he would be facing either the World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz or World No.3 Daniil Medvedev in the final if they fight their way through.
Novak Djokovic’s Paris Masters draw
- Round 1- Bye
- Round 2- Miomir Kecmanovic/ Tomas Etcheverry
- Round 3- Ben Shelton/ Davidovich Fokina
- Quarter-finals– Holger Rune/ Taylor Fritz
- Semi-finals- Andrey Rublev/ Jannik Sinner
- Final- Carlos Alcaraz/ Daniil Medvedev
Novak Djokovic’s record in the Paris Masters up till now
If there is any other competition other than the Wimbledon Championships that Novak loves playing at, it has to be the season-ending competition at the Paris Masters. He is the only player to have won the competition for a record six times but had to bow down as the runner-up last year against youngster Holger Rune in the final.
Nole began his hunt at the Rolex Paris Masters way back in the year 2009 beating Gael Monfils in the final followed by his impressive win in the year 2013 against David Ferrer. He then sprung onto consecutive wins in the 2014 and 2015 seasons beating the likes of Milos Raonic and Andy Murray in the final respectively. He again won it in the year 2019 beating Denis Shapovalov and beat Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2021 edition to emerge victorious.
