Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rick Macci predicts a ‘musical chair’ between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner for the World No.1 position

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been two of the most prominent young players in the last couple of years of the ATP Tour. Both of them have shown amazing resilience and skillset for their age.
Alcaraz already has his hands on two major Grand Slam titles with the US Open 2022. Adding with the Wimbledon he won this season by beating Novak Djokovic in the finals. Sinner has not won a major Grand Slam till now, but it’s just a matter of time for a player of his caliber.
Ex-coach of Serena Williams, Rick Macci has lauded both young players that they will become World No.1 players in the future. Moreover, there will be tough competition between them for the feat. On his Twitter (now called as X) handle, Macci was asked whether Sinner will become World No.1 or not. To this question, Macci replied,
Was asked if Jannik Sinner CAN be number one someday. He WIIL BE number one someday and Sooner Rather Than later. Jannik Joker and Carlos will play Musical Chairs going up and down the NUMBER RANKING STAIRS.
Macci currently works as a consultant for the USTA player development program. Across his career, Macci has coached various players such as Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner top contenders for winning the Grand Slams in 2024
Alcaraz and Sinner ended 2023 as World No.2 and World No.4, respectively. The performances they have produced throughout the year have been spectacular.
Even though Sinner didn’t win a major Grand Slam, he helped Italy to win the Davis Cup. The way he played in the semis of the Davis Cup against Novak Djokovic is worth a mention. Both of these young stars have a good record against the Serb. In head-to-head between the two, the Spaniard leads the way with four wins to Sinner’s three.
With the Australian Open set to under away in January, eyes will be upon these two young stars to see how they perform. Moreover, with the Paris Olympics around the corner, it will be a great opportunity for these two to make a name for their respective nations.
Roger Federer has retired and Rafael Nadal and Nole are at the twilight of their careers. Thus, it is almost the end of the era for ‘The Big Three’. With the promises these two have shown in recent years, they are surely going to be the talk of the future.
