Tennis coach Rick Macci is regarded as one of the greatest tutors in the history of the sport and knows a thing or two about how to get players’ careers on line. For a young star like Emma Raducanu, who got acquainted with fame at such a young age and then with time got everything backfiring on her, Macci has some advice for the British star.
Raducanu has been out for most parts of the season with various injuries slowing her recovery down. She had to go under the knife after she was struggling with a recurring wrist problem and also went for surgery on her ankle. While she is out of action, the media is out there attacking her for her ‘apparent’ past mistakes that she committed as a teenager.
She talked in the past about how she hoped on not winning the 2021 US Open and the press is using it as a tool to shake her confidence down. In an interview with the Telegraph, Macci has asked the 21-year-old to calm herself down and face a situation like this as a professional.
If she really wants to be one of the best in the world – and she has the ability – then you need to cope with the pressure that comes with that. She should want pressure. You do all this training to be a professional player and want to be the best in the world. She has to be able to deal with what comes with that. Macci also added that she needs to learn how to deal with pressure if she plans to succeed in the future and also believes that she has the ability to get the job done.
Rick Macci advises Emma Raducanu to learn from the adversities
While Emma Raducanu keeps on blaming herself for winning the US Open back in the year 2021, Macci feels that the youngster is not thinking straight and must get her head in the right place.
Raducanu had opened up in the past about how tough life has been for her after she won the US Open. Macci advised Emma to not put her head across everything she hears around the air and to make herself as strong and ‘bulletproof’ as possible.
If she’s going to listen to every little thing that is said about her then that doesn’t work, you’ve got to be bulletproof and I can help her with that. You need an ability to forget just as importantly as the ability to remember and she must learn from the adversity she’s faced.
The Williams sisters’ former coach shared some strong pointers for the English star as he wishes Raducanu to forget things as quickly as possible and must learn from her past mistakes. The famed coach also agreed to help her deal with pressure and create a warrior out of herself. He admitted to having held talks with Raducanu’s parents for a coaching stint with the young Brit in the same interview.
