It is always a disappointing sight for any tennis fan to see a legend like Rafael Nadal miss major tournaments due to injury. It has been the case for more than a year now, as the Spanish star has been finding it hard to return to his full fitness.
Since the Wimbledon Championships, which happened last year, Nadal has been struggling to recover completely from the knee injury, which has also had an impact on his rivalry with Novak Djokovic.
Nadal has just played two matches this year at the Australian Open, getting knocked out by Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets. While the Laver Cup has just commenced with Team World triumphing over Team Europe, it would have struck the minds of many that Nadal’s involvement could have had a different effect on the result of the tournament. Even the legend Rod Laver spoke about wanting to see Nadal wear the blue strips for one more time.
Rod wants to see Nadal next year at the Laver Cup, with even the Spanish star fighting to get back to his full potential by the end of this year. Rod answered a question on Twitter about whether he was looking forward to watching Nadal next year. He replied, “Rafa has had such a great career. I’d love to be able to see him play one more time. He’s a student of the game.”
Will Rafael Nadal ever be able to return to the court again?
With almost eight months since the 21-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal last stepped foot on the tennis court, the tennis world is growing impatient to watch the Spaniard enlighten them yet again with his glorious forehand. But after a string of interviews in the current times, Nadal has left a question mark in the minds of many fans as to whether he will ever be able to play tennis yet again.
Having undergone arthroscopic hip surgery back in June, many rumors suggest that he is expected to return next year, but the truth is, he is far from being fit at the moment. Nadal stated during an interview with AS, “There is also the possibility that I may not recover and not play again.” But having battled injuries all throughout his life, his fans are adamant that the star will return once again and end his career on a high.
