Swiss legend Roger Federer has been enjoying his time after retirement really well from featuring in events shows to coming out as a guest in all the major tournaments. But one of the most asked questions in recent times had popped up yet again after current Team Europe captain and Swedish tennis legend, Bjorn Borg expressed his interest in getting replaced by Federer in the future.

At a press conference ahead of the start of the matches of Day 1 of the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, Bjorn Borg threw one of the most lucrative offers to Federer. Bjorn questioned, “I have one question, Roger, In the future would you like to be the team captain for Team Europe?” Among the loud crowd cheers and desperations, Federer expressed his admiration for Bjorn assuring the tennis world yet again that the 67-year is the perfect man for the job.

Federer said, “That position is so locked by you forever, and I don’t call you the king just for any reason, you are the best. The years I have spent with you as my team captain. and I mean yes, why not one day, maybe not right away but I’m absolutely open to the thought.” He further said, “I just want to get back to the game in any shape or form and of course, being a captain of the Laver Cup would be definitely one of those things.

Roger Federer rates Team Europe ahead of Team World at the Laver Cup

Roger Federer has no part to play anymore in the competition that he won three times in the past wearing the iconic blue. Laver Cup began with a lot of hopes way back in 2017 and Roger played an integral part in the inauguration of the competition. Still, Roger’s heart beats for the team as he desperately wants the next generational stars to lift the cup on Sunday with the help of their captain, Bjorn Borg.

Federer also expressed an interest in helping the team out in the future if possible saying, “There’s something in me that’s Team Europe. I’m happy if World wins, don’t get me wrong, but somehow, I can feel it deep inside — I want Europe to win. I like being in the tennis sphere. Maybe one day, I’ll be the captain of the team. There’s no plans as of now, but I think that could be quite nice.”
