Roger Federer, the tennis legend, had won the hearts of fans through his amazing sense of gameplay. Fans have loved him for his outstanding achievements. However, the Swiss is also known for his calm and humble nature. In a recent podcast, he showed just that when he was reacting to young sensation Carlos Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz, the Spaniard, has shot his way up the ranking after a year of success. Fans have been comparing the Spaniard with the ‘Big Three’ of tennis: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. “I see a bit of the power on the forehand side, Rafa’s style a little bit. Obviously, you see the drop shot; you see he’s using a slice; he can play from the back like Rafa can. And then he’s got some defensive skills that rival Novak’s,” said Federer on the ATP tennis podcast.
Continuing his train of thought, he further added, “Maybe there’s a combination, but it’s also not fair to say that because Carlos is Carlos, like Novak is Novak, and Rafa is Rafa. I don’t like it when there are just too many comparisons. I like when they stand alone.”
The 20-year-old Spaniard has been turning heads on the ATP Tour with his exceptional tennis. As expected, the young talent soon bagged the No. 1 position in the ATP ranking, becoming a fan favorite in no time. He recently beat Novak in the Wimbledon finals but lost his No. 1 spot to the Serb after the US Open.
Roger Federer was mighty impressed with Carlos beating Novak in the Wimbledon finals
Recently, 20-time Grand Slam title champion Roger Federer enlightened the ATP tennis world with his presence. He revealed a few insights on various players and was even impressed with the performances of some. Carlos Alcaraz is one of those players who has managed to impress the Swiss by beating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals.
“Alcaraz is great. I mean, look, he’s still young, and everything that he has achieved is fantastic, not just on clay or just on hard, you know. But also now winning Wimbledon against Novak in the final, that is that is no joke. I mean, he didn’t need to really prove that point, but that’s another super asterisk in his CV. Mighty impressive,” said Federer on the podcast.
Carlos may have had a bad run in Shanghai Masters, but that doesn’t erase the major accomplishments of 2023. The youngster has proven that he is a whole different entity who will only improve in the future.
