Roger Federer, the 41-year-old Swiss former tennis professional is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. With 20 grand slam titles to his name, Federer has his name etched in the history books of tennis. The Swiss icon recently broke a lot of hearts as he announced his retirement after a glorious career that spanned over two decades.

Federer recently shared a heartfelt message on his social media handle where he announced the news of his retirement. The Swiss maestro announced that he would be retiring after competing at the Laver Cup. History was made at the o2 Arena as Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Roger Federer teamed up to take John McEnroe’s Team World for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Talking about the moment in a recent interview with the ATP, Federer said, “It felt very fitting to end my career here (Laver Cup). Having Bjorn Borg on the bench with me when I walk out, was going to be something that is beyond cool and that was something really nice. Having a team behind me as well would not feel so lonely when I’m calling it a day.

That was something that resonated heavily with me, having the likes of Andy, Novak, and Rafa and everybody on the team is clearly an amazing thing. It just felt like the right place to do it and I’m really grateful that all the guys were here,” Federer added further.

Roger Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup was the stuff of absolute dreams. The Swiss icon was accompanied by Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal as all of the took on Team World at the Laver Cup. They were unable to retain the title but it sure made for a memorable occasion at the o2 Arena.
