The Swiss maestro played his last professional match at the Laver Cup, after being on the sidelines for well over a year. The 21-time Grand Slam champion struggled with knee injuries in the last couple of years of his career. However, his wife, Mirka Federer stood by him through thick and thin.
Roger Federer and Mirka Federer tied the knot in 2009, after knowing each other for well over a decade. In the latest book titled ‘The Roger Federer Effect’ by Simon Cambers and Simon Graf, Mirka Federer makes an adorable revelation regarding their relationship.
Being a big follower of the music band, ‘The Backstreet Boys,’ Mirka Federer told an anecdote in the latest book. She spoke about the moment when she fell in love with her future husband: “Roger sang the Backstreet Boys falsettoand I was already in love!”

Roger Federer met his future wife, Mirka Federer at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where both of them were representing Switzerland. Initially, Roger was too shy to approach Mirka, and was helped by a couple of other Swiss athletes to initiate a conversation with her.
Mirka Federer was doing relatively well on the WTA tour in the late 90s. Despite losing in the first round at the Sydney Olympics, she stayed back to support Roger Federer. “Mirka lost to Dementieva in the first round. My losses to Haas and Di Pasquale weren’t easy to digest, but Mirka stayed there to support me,” Federer said.
Mirka Federer announced her retirement from tennis in 2002, after struggling with a persistent foot injury. Prior to his farewell game at the Laver Cup last year, Roger Federer revealed that the last couple of years have been tough on her wife. Being forced to end her career early due to injury issues, Mirka could not watch his husband playing through the constant pain barrier.
“The last few years have been tough for me, but I think it was even tougher for her. With all her injuries, she didn’t enjoy watching me anymore. I felt sorry for her too. It’s a great relief for her now that it’s over,” Federer had said.
