Elena Rybakina has had a fair share of ups and downs in her performances since her maiden Grand Slam singles title win at the Wimbledon Championship beating Ons Jabeur in the final in 3-sets. Since her Wimbledon win, she has managed to reach the finals at the Slovenia Open but lost to Katerina Siniakova, and had also managed to reach the semi-finals at the Ostrava Open where she lost to the eventual winner Barbora Krejcikova despite facing a first-round exit at the US Open and not having a great run at the warmup tournaments in the North American swing.
Garbine Muguruza, the two-time Grand Slam winner had managed to reach the third round of the US Open but lost to Petra Kvitova in the final tie-breaker set. She had also reached the quarter-finals of the Japan Open after receiving a bye in the first round but lost to the eventual winner Liudmila Samsonova. She is the defending champion at the WTA Finals but with her inconsistent performances throughout the year, it looks like she may not be in contention to qualify for the year-end championship.
This will be the fourth time both the players will play against each other and their head-to-head stands at 2-1 with Rybakina having the upper hand over Muguruza. The last time they both played against each other was at the Western and Southern Open in 2022 where Rybakina won in straight sets.

Muguruza hasn’t had a great season so far because of the lack of form and early exits in most of the WTA tournaments. On the other hand, Rybakina will be much more confident after having a good run at the freshly concluded Ostrava Open and also at the Japan Open. She has the highest number of aces served this year. Based on the current form and performances, Rybakina will be the favorite to win the match as she has excellent service and can generate high-powered groundstrokes with her height playing a great advantage in her movement on the court.
