Former women’s doubles World No. 1 Sania Mirza has talked about the dark side of social media. The now-retired tennis ace has sided with Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner as she has claimed that “it’s not always a bed of roses”. Mirza has said that people need to learn how to deal with such things.
As the Indian WTA icon is enjoying her retirement, the 37-year-old was asked about how she copes in this age of social media where the biggest of stars are under constant scrutiny. To this, Mirza had a simple yet strong reply. She said that there are pros and cons to everything and social media is no exception.
Mirza advised people that they must learn how to cope with the scrutiny that comes at anyone who is a public figure. She also emphasized the need to protect oneself and their loved ones.
Social media is part of our lives, and when you become a public figure, it’s just something you need to deal with. It’s not always a bed of roses. But everything has its pros and cons. You only have to try and protect yourself along with the people around you.Sania Mirza said. (H/T: The New Indian Express)
Notably, Jannik Sinner had advised youngsters to not post everything on social media. After his Australian Open win, Sinner explained why he chooses to stay away from such platforms.
I always tell young people to be careful with social networks because things are projected that are not true. People convey that they have a fantastic life when in reality things may be going badly for them. I don't like them because I don't think they show the truth and, honestly, I live much better without them and I will continue that way.Jannik Sinner had said.
What is Sania Mirza doing these days?
After retiring from professional tennis last year, Sania Mirza has been enjoying her retirement. However, things have not been great for Mirza on the marriage front as she recently divorced from her ex-husband, Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
However, Mirza has coped with the challenges really well. Right after she retired from the sport, the tennis ace got into a mentorship role with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise Royal Challenges Bengaluru (RCB). Apart from that, she has also worked with several brands to shoot ads.
Amid all the hustle, Mirza has been constantly troubled by the scrutiny on social media. The 37-year-old emphasized how it became challenging for her as she grew in her field.
Nevertheless, the former tennis ace has navigated through her career well and is living the post-retirement life with the same enthusiasm with which she dominated on the tennis court.
