Novak Djokovic believes Saudi Arabia’s involvement in tennis is inevitable no matter how many oppose the move. As the hues and cries about the Middle Eastern country dictating terms in the sport grow, Djokovic was asked about how the world of tennis would look some 20 years down the line.
The Serbian was quick to address the talks around the involvement of Saudi Arabia. Djokovic said that it is not possible to keep a country that loves the sport so much out of the scheme of things for long. Djokovic cited the Nextgen ATP Finals example to explain how Saudi Arabia is pushing to bring more such events to itself.
The Serb also talked about the exhibition event in which he himself took part last year and claimed that the country is pushing hard to get involved as much as possible.
I think they will be involved, in fact, they already are to some extent. They recently hosted the NextGen Finals and last year they organized a great exhibition with top players. Look, it's inevitable, it's going to happen. It is a strong and growing economy. They love sports and want to invest, so tennis is going to be part of it. How? We'll see.Novak Djokovic said to Diario AS.
Novak Djokovic eagerly waiting for Rafael Nadal to come back
Novak Djokovic who enjoyed his rivalry with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for almost fifteen years is excited about Nadal’s comeback. The 36-year-old while calling the Spaniard his main rival said that it would be great for the sport if Nadal came back and competed at the highest level.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner also hoped for Nadal to play the entire season. Djokovic then also talked about the Spaniard thinking of adding more Grand Slam titles to his tally and then subtly dropping a hint that he is eager to stop the 22-time Grand Slam champion.
Rafa is always my main rival. It doesn't matter how long you're off the slopes. I hope, for the sake of the tennis world, that he can play as much as possible, the entire season. I can't imagine Nadal thinking anything other than winning the biggest tournaments. He is going to return with the desire to win more Grand Slams and be among the best in the world. We'll see what happens.Novak Djokovic said about Rafael Nadal’s comeback.
Notably, Rafael Nadal is touted to make a comeback with the Brisbane International. Although the Spaniard has refrained from making any announcements, Nadal is assumed to play at the 2024 Australian Open and hopefully, fans can get to see a Grand Slam final between Djokovic and Nadal.
