American player Sebastian Korda has hit back at Daniil Medvedev over his comment that suggested Korda had enjoyed a major advantage in the 2023 Shanghai Masters because of the courts that the matches were played on. The Russian made the controversial statement after his shocking defeat against the American in the third round of the 2023 Shanghai Masters

World No. 16, Sebastian Korda, defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-6(8), 6-2, to everyone’s surprise in the second round of the Shanghai Masters. After the match, Medvedev was disappointed in himself for not winning the tie-breaker in the first set. However, he also claimed that the courts might have given his opponent a slight advantage. “It’s not all about the court, but I think the conditions maybe favored him a little bit. He was fast enough to hit winners, but slow enough to have time to set up his shot. So I think yes, it was good for him,” said the Russian.

Korda has now hit back at the Russian saying that he himself wished that he could serve so well in all of his matches. “I wish I could serve as well as I did, every day, it would make it a lot easier. I had a very good first serve percentage. Against players like him, you have to serve very well, be aggressive on your serve, hit your balls and go to the net,” said the 23-year-old in a recent presser in Shanghai.

Korda went on to say that according to his analysis, Medvedev can be disrupted by aggressive players who go on to the net, slicing balls and taking them inside. He does that very well, and that is what led to his victory in the third round.

Daniil Medvedev’s recent form

Daniil Medvedev has been in impeccable form lately and the third-round exit from Shanghai Masters remains the only spot in his resume in the last 3-4 months. The Russian player made it to the finals of back-to-back tournaments, i.e, the US Open and the China Open. Unfortunately, though, he failed to win any of those tournaments.

His third-round exit from the Shanghai Masters is probably his worst record in any tournament this season and he will definitely overcome this soon with a sensational comeback in his upcoming tournament.
