Sebastian Korda is another American rising star who has been progressively increasing his rank in the men’s table. Recently, he made headlines by beating World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev in the early stages of the ongoing Shanghai Masters. The 23-year-old also created a buzz in a recent interview when he made a few modest yet realistic comments.
In a recent press interview, Sebastian Korda turned down the comparisons made between him and other young players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Despite the comments about his career, the 23-year-old remains extremely modest when he acknowledges the achievements of the top-ranked youngsters and how he would love to play against them one day.
“They obviously have better results than me and frankly I don’t think I’m at their level. You know, I’m going to try to get a good result here, and we’ll see later. But yes, they are incredible players and I hope we play against each other for many, many years.” said the humble Sebastian during a press meet.
Sebastian Korda bags a first top 5 win as he upsets Daniil Medvedev
The Shanghai Masters could not get any better, as World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev lost against American youngster Sebastian Korda in a highly electrifying Round of 32 match. The first set of the match was extremely intense, with both players fighting for each point.
Unfortunately for the Russian, Korda came through and took the first set to his name. After that, everything went downhill for the former US Open winner as fans witnessed Daniil express his frustration on his racket and soon lost the second set pretty cheaply.
Sebastian Korda can finally check off beating a top-five player from his bucket list after an amazing performance. The American now advances to the third round of the tournament, where he faces Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo.
These two youngsters are closely ranked and will play each other for the first time. The winner of this match will take the lead in their H2H as well as go deep into the tournament.
