Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev

After a long wait, fans will be finally treated to a Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev showdown this season. The two Grand Slam winners clashed in three finals last season but are yet to meet this season. However, with both qualifying for the semis at the 2022 Astana Open, their first match of the season is confirmed.

Medvedev defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-1, 6-1 to enter the semis while Djokovic had defeated Medvedev’s compatriot Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-3. Medvedev has won just one title this season while Djokovic will be eyeing his 4th title as the Serb looks to recover his loss this season due to vaccine mandates.

Medvedev is not in the best of forms coming from a controversial second-round exit in the 2022 Moselle Open. He had earlier lost in the 4th round of the 2022 US Open at a failed title defence which resulted in his dethroning from the World No. 1 spot. As for Djokovic, he is in brilliant form.

Djokovic having won the 2022 Wimbledon title, lost only one match since then, at the 2022 Laver Cup. Post the event in London, Djokovic won the title in Tel Aviv without dropping a set and has continued the same form in Astana reaching the last-4 on a 7-match and 14 consecutive sets winning streak.

With two heavyweights preparing for a massive clash at the ATP-500 event, fans on Twitter couldn’t contain their excitement and made it known on the social media platform hoping for a brilliant contest between the two who have shared a good rivalry over the past few years.
