Serena Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player ever. The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion however made a shocking admission when comparing the men’s and women’s games.

Speaking with David Letterman back in 2013, Williams, winner of 17 singles majors then, admitted that she would be served a double bagel by then a two-time major winner Andy Murray.

It's actually funny because Andy Murray is always joking about myself and him playing a match. I'm like, 'Andy seriously? Are you kidding me?' because for me men's tennis and women's tennis are completely two separate sports. If I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose, 6-0, 6-0, in 5 to 6 minutes, maybe 10 minutes.

Serena Williams justified why it will be difficult for her to beat Andy Murray and other ATP players

The audience and Letterman both were surprised at Williams’ statement, but the tennis pro backed it up with further justification. She went on to talk about the difference in the quality of the ATP and WTA Tour and why she would not risk going up against a male player.

It's true. It's completely different sport. The men are a lot faster, they serve harder, they hit harder. It's a completely different game. I love to play women's tennis. I only want to play girls because I don't want to be embarrassed. I would not do the Tour, I would not do Billie Jean any justice.--So, Andy stop it. I'm not gonna let you kill me.
added Williams smilingly during the interview

Mentioning the legendary Billie Jean King, Williams was referring to the ‘Battle of Sexes‘ match. Back in 1973, a 29-year-old King had defeated Bobby Riggs, who had claimed that despite him being 55 years old, he could beat the top WTA players.
