After an exciting couple of weeks at the Australian Open, one woman stood out from the crowd. Aryna Sabalenka, who entered as the defending champion, made it to her second final in Melbourne. Out of the 128 women who entered, Sabalenka tops the group to be known as the first finalist in 2024.
She was up against the dangerous Coco Gauff in the semi-finals and took her sweet revenge for the US Open incident. After facing a small hiccup in the first set, the Belarusian fought back in the tiebreak to win the starting set.
Amplifying her confidence, she broke Gauff in the second set to win the match. This was yet another straight-set victory for the No. 2 seed, who made her spot at the Australian Open finals.
With this win, she became the first woman to reach back-to-back finals at the Australian Open since Serena Williams in 2016 and 2017. Back in 2016, the American tennis idol reached the finals but lost to then-No. 7 Angelique Kerber.
Backing that run, Williams fought her way into the next year’s (2017) finals as well. Only to beat her sister, Venus Williams, in straight sets. Since Serena, only Sabalenka has managed to reach consecutive finals in Melbourne. Having won last year, she will hope to successfully defend the title this time around.
Aryna Sabalenka is one step closer to a perfect title defense as she awaits her final Australian Open opponent
Having beaten Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, Sabalenka makes her way into her second Australian Open final. She became the first woman since Serena Willaims to do so.
The last record holder went on to become one of the most historic people in the sport. With loads of achievements ahead of her, Williams has inspired many, including Gauff.
As of now, the mother of two is enjoying her retirement life, as she is often seen enjoying her time with her daughters.
As evident from her breezing Instagram posts and reels, Williams is on vacation with her children. Enjoying the sparkle of the sand in front of a vast area of ocean, the whole Williams family is in the Bahamas for their vacation.
However, it is no holiday for Sabalenka in Melbourne, as she is one opponent away from a successful title defense. The Belarusian is only one match away from rewriting a page in the history book under her name.
