Michael Jordan, Serena Williams and Kobe Bryant
Serena Williams is one of the most popular tennis players in the world. Her style, charisma, and fashion antics, all are widely followed.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles title winner is known to be a champion on the court. She won every trophy and medal throughout her career. It is natural for people to wish to be associated with champions.
A news report is in circulation that informs that the auction house, Christie’s is auctioning Serena Williams’s pair of sneakers. The shoes are the result of the collaboration of Nike Flare 2 and Off-white brands. The sneakers are worn by Serena Williams and feature her autograph. The auction house is asking $20,000 for her sneakers.
Besides Serena’s sneakers, Michael Jordan’s 1985 Air Jordan 1 sneakers, Kobe Bryant Los Angeles Lakers jersey, a rare Chanel’s Medicom toy, and Virgil Abloh-designed Louis Vuitton trunk will also be up for auction.
Women tennis without Serena Williams
For more than a decade Serena Williams ruled female tennis. She won every major title. She was also crowned World No.1 for 186 weeks consecutively. For the most of 2021 and 2022 seasons, she remained out of action. She played her last match in the 2022 US Open. She retired subsequently from professional tennis.
Meanwhile, new stars began to shine on the horizon of women’s tennis. Iga Swiatek dominated this season. She won two Grand Slams, i.e., the French Open and the US Open this year. She also won 6 ATP singles titles this year. Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, Caroline Garcia, and Elena Rybakina are also a few names who played very well this season.
Also, young talents such as Sloane Stephens, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys became new superstars of Women’s tennis coming from the USA. These players made a distinct name for themselves and were acknowledged by the media, former players, and critics as the players of the future.
Serena Williams’ contemporaries such as Ashleigh Barty retired after winning her career’s third and last Grand Slam this January. She won the 2022 Australian Open women’s singles title. Veterans such as Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, and Angelique Kerber saw a renaissance of sorts with their performances this season. Meanwhile, Serena’s elder sister Venus Williams is still playing professional tennis and ready to whack the ball for aces on the court.
The new brass is replacing old ones and writing history this season. But what Serena Williams achieved in her career is extraordinary. Only time will tell if some player will be able to surpass Serena Williams’ record and build new ones.
