Richard Williams, the revered tennis coach has been the leading man behind the success of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams. Both sisters have been revered as one of the biggest legends of the women’s game. Under their father’s guidance, both Serena and Venus conquered the sport and became one of the most successful sibling athlete duos of all time.
In his personal life, however, Richard Williams has been struggling. The former tennis coach has been involved in a court case with his ex, Lakeisha Graham which began back in 2017. The pair got married back in 2010 and have shared custody of their son.
Talking about his case, Richard Williams said, “If I do get the house, it’ll be okay. If I don’t get the house, that’s quite okay, either way, up or down, we’ll be happy. I just want a divorce. It’s been six years, man. Just a bunch of junk, junk, junk. [I’m] so tired of that junk now. I don’t trust women anymore. I just want to keep to myself, I might live a quieter life.“
Richard Williams hints that Venus Williams could be retiring soon
After Serena Williams pulled away from tennis last year saying that she is evolving away from the sport. Richard Williams insists that it might be time for Venus Williams to hang her boots too. Despite Venus insisting that she will be continuing playing tennis, Richard Williams thinks that she could be retiring very soon.
Talking about it he said, “I think she could be quitting [tennis] very soon.” After withdrawing from the 2023 Australian Open due to an injury that she sustained in Auckland, Venus has only played six tour-level matches since the latter stages of 2021.
After Serena Williams’ emotional retirement at last year’s US Open, Venus Williams is expected to follow in her footsteps as well. The 42-year-old has won many accolades throughout her career and will always be revered as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.
