“Change who is writing the checks” Serena Williams takes a firm stance on racism after Don Pebbles spoke about its current state in the US

Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam winner, is the record holder for most slams in the Open era in the women’s category. She has proved her dominance over the years as World No 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. She is one of the highest-paid female athletes in the world.
Williams founded a micro venture capital company called ‘Serena Ventures’ in the year 2014 which focuses on investing in early-stage companies. It is situated in San Francisco and was established to focus on diversity. The venture has made 30 diversity investments, most recent diversity investments were on Apr 20, 2022. In Serena Ventures, women comprise 53% of the workforce, out of which 47% are black women.

Serena Williams believes in giving equal opportunities to women and men
Don Pebbles is an American real estate entrepreneur, author, and political activist. He is the founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the real estate company Peebles Corporation. Black Enterprise named Peebles as one of the ‘Business Trailblazers and Titans of Black America: 40 most powerful African Americans in business’ category in 2015.
Recently in an interview, he spoke about his plans to build Affirmation Tower, which will be the only black-owned and black-developed skyscraper in New York City. He further spoke about how still black people especially women are treated by the US Government while white men receive almost 98.7% of the $69 trillion in private business funding.
Williams has been supporting a lot of philanthropy works and has always been vocal about social changes. The American, the founder of Serena Ventures, supported the statement by Pebbles by saying ‘This reason I started Serena Ventures is because of such numbers‘. She further went on to say that we should believe in diversification and everybody should get a fair chance.
