“Seriously, just go away” Tennis Twitter left agonizingly confused after Serena Williams once again teases comeback from retirement

After Serena Williams once again raised hopes of a comeback from retirement during a recent interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco, tennis fans on Twitter started going back and forth in amazement and frustration conjecturing whether it was fair for the 23-time Grand Slam champion to leave this important decision in limbo and if she really had any chances or plans of returning.

Serena had hinted she was stepping away from the sport after the 2022 US Open where she also received what looked like a thunderous farewell from the crowd in New York and there were tributes from tennis pundits and other distinguished personalities alike. However, there was still hope left that the 41-year-old American player would return to the court someday considering her past dominance and her manner of speaking, when she said, “Tom Brady (NFL) started a really cool trend (of coming back after retirement)”

However, some Serena fans also supported her vehemently, suggesting that the player was right to keep it open-ended as she was “evolving.”

Some people suggested a practical solution to Serena, saying she had no chances of exceling at the sport now anyway.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is also known for her taste in fashion and owns a jewelry collection brand apart from a fashion label. On September 14, Serena was seen walking the ramp in a shining silver outfit at the New York Fashion Week.

Multiple-time Grand Slam singles and doubles champion John Mcenroe also recently suggested that players should not come back to professional sports once they announce retirement while being asked if greats like Roger Federer and Serena should return if possible.

“Both of these superstars and legends can do whatever they want. To me when you announce retirement, you should retire.” said McEnroe in a recent interview.

“Of course, we want to see them play forever but it feels like when you make those type of announcements it’s right to say, ‘this is the way it should end’. I think it would be better for all concerned,” added McEnroe.
