Seeded at No.4 in the Shanghai Masters event, Stefanos Tsitsipas had a great start this season. In 2023, Tsitsipas made it to the finals at the Australian Open where his winning streak came to an end against the now 24-times Grand Slam winner, Novak Djokovic. At the French Open as well, the Greek made it to the final 8 but lost his ticket to the Quarters in Wimbledon at the hands of Christopher Eubanks.

Early in August, Tsitsipas beat World No.13, Alex de Minaur in straight sets to claim his first title this year at the Los Cabos Open. However, his performance since then has taken a downturn.

In Canada, Tsitsipas lost his opening match to Frenchman, Gael Monfils. He also made a disappointing second round exit at both Cincinnati Masters event and at the Flushing Meadows. Recently, the 25-year-old crashed out of the first round at the China Open as well.

At the same time, Rinky Hijikata beat Benjamin Lock in the Qualifiers round as the No.1 seed. In his first round match, he proceeded to claim victory against Serbia’s Laslo Djere. The Australian pro beat Djere 7-6, 7-5. At the US Open earlier last month, Hijikata had an impressive run. He made it to the fourth round of the tournament but lost to World No.10, Frances Tiafoe.

The duo of Rinky Hijikata and Stefanos Tsitsipas have faced each other previously this year at the Australian Open. Their head-to-head stands at 1-0, where the Greek leads Hijikata.
