Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion in the ladies category, made her return to tennis at the Wimbledon Championship 2022 after a year. Though looking strong on her comeback, her campaign was short-lived as she faced a first-round exit to Harmony Tan. She did not have a lot of practice before entering the tournament as she was a wild-card entrant.

The American was missing in action for quite a time due to injury and there was news regarding her retirement announcement that will be soon out in the headlines. The rumors were squashed on her comeback announcement as nobody had anticipated her return at Wimbledon. After her exit, she enjoyed a small vacation with her husband and daughter exploring the streets of London and Athens getting relaxed and determined ahead of the hard-court season which starts in early August.

“Serena Williams is one of the best competitors we have seen”: Rick Macci

Rick Macci and Serena Williams

Former Tennis player Rick Macci, who was the former coach and mentor to the Williams sisters, has nurtured them and helped them to handle crucial stages in the course of their journey. He was very happy and ecstatic on finding the American champion coming back to the court.

Recently, in an interview, Macci showed his faith that if Serena Williams wishes and commits completely, she can once again become number one as she is one of the best competitors in the world. He said “If she wants to do it, 100% she can come back. And I think she could not only win a Grand Slam but also become world number one again if she wanted to, but that’s a question only she can answer. If she wants to do it, she has to go all out and get herself into extraordinary shape. You don’t lose your talent, but your physical form. Then we regain confidence once we start playing games. She just has to immerse herself and get used to winning and losing. I know Serena has other priorities in her life, she is now a mother.

She will next play in the National Banks Open in Toronto followed by the Cincinnati Open as she prepares for the final Grand Slam tournament of this year, the US Open 2022.
