“She’s a really great champion,” Former world no. 1 Simona Halep wary of Paula Badosa threat ahead of mouth-watering clash in Madrid
Paula Badosa and Simona Halep
Simona Halep is ecstatic over her win over Chinese player Zheng Shuai who she beat in the round of 64 in the Madrid Open 2022. This is not the first time the Romanian has played in Madrid Open as she has reached the finals four times and won two times in the Madrid Open tournament. The 30-year-old has had her first win since the Indian Wells tournament where she reached the semifinals.
On asking to comment on her win, she said, “I stayed focused, aggressive, strong on my legs and I just did what I had to do. It was a good match, in my opinion,” She further adds, “I always have a great feeling playing here in Madrid.”
With the match lasting only for 68 minutes and the final score being 6-2, 6-3, Halep gave no chance of recovery for the Chinese who struggled with the serve and the aggressive return that Halep was returning. Simona Halep had recently changed her coach and is currently training under Serena Williams’s ex-coach Patrick Mouratogoulou and has started the tournament with a happy start.
The Romanian will next face world no. 2 Paula Badosa whose response to facing Simona Halep was this, “It’s going to be a really tough match. She’s a really great champion. I’m going to have to give my all if I want to win the match but I’m looking forward to it.” we are also looking forward to this great match and can’t wait to see who will win and progress forward.
Simona Halep and her journey ahead
Simona Halep was once the former world no.1 and riddled with injuries had to back out from a lot of tournaments and is now currently the world no. 21. The Romanian sensation had one of the best matches in the recent Indian Wells tournament, where she reached the semi-finals and lost to World no. 1 and eventual champion Iga Swiatek. She is now participating in Indian Wells after that tournament and is all geared up and looks ready to give a tough fight to her opponents. The Romanian will most likely also feature in the 2022 French Open and is also gearing up for the same. The Madrid Open win is bound to give her some confidence and we hope that she progresses the same way in her career.
Looks like she will be giving her very best and we hope that she carries on with this winning streak.
