Simona Halep receives the official Miami Open wildcard to kickstart her comeback after a tedious legal battle

Romanian pro Simona Halep’s tennis dream continues after emerging victorious in a tedious legal battle. After facing more than a year on the sidelines, the 32-year-old is allowed to return to court.
Helping her kick-start her tennis journey again is the Miami Open, which offered the Romanian a wild-card entry to their tournament. Starting from the 17th of March, the 2-time Grand Slam winner will make her official return to the WTA tour.
After being accused of having taken the drug Roxadustat during the 2022 US Open, Halep was banned for 4-years by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). However, the Romanian continuously held her ground and fought for her career, which was at the risk of ending. Finally, she was allowed to present her case in front of the court, which found her guilty.

Recently, the CAS Panel announced its decision to reduce the ban on Halep from 4 years to 9 months, ending the Romanian’s ban effectively. They even offered Halep some credit for the extra time served in the ban. Now, the Miami Open has offered her a chance to get back on the board, and among the wins with a wildcard entry. With this entry, Halep will play her first official match since August 2022.
