Soon after former world No. 1 Simona Halep was caught using a prohibited substance at this year’s US Open and subsequently banned, tennis fans on Twitter started conjecturing if it was the same reason why her coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently shifted base to upcoming Danish youngster Holger Rune’s camp, and whether the famous French mentor is also an accomplice in the doping offence.
According to timelines provided by a Twitter account, Mouratoglou joined the Rune team on October 12th, after Halep was made aware of her positive test.
Whether fair or not, the development sure comes as a huge shock for the tennis community and therefore a bit of suspicion isn’t unwarranted.
Some people also had a hilarious take at the doping controversy, trying to break the humdrum of it all. A user on Twitter said that Rune may want to check his water bottle now considering Halep was with Mouratoglou at the time the alleged doping offence took place.
Iga Swiatek’s selection of music on a recent Instagram reel suggests beef with Simona Halep
In her time away from the tour, World No.1 Iga Swiatek is doing some indoor training and some gym sessions. She posted a reel on Instagram of herself training in the gym. While the video looks pretty normal, it’s the music she added to the reel that does the trick and raises some eyebrows. She added, “Another one Bites the dust” to her reel. The video is very eye-catching with the music but when thought deeply, the timing of her reel isn’t particularly ideal.
Just last day, 2-time grand slam champion Halep tested positive for doping and is currently the hottest topic in the tennis world. While it may not be intentional, it looks like Swiatek is mocking Halep by jamming to “Another one bites the dust” implying that another top player has been caught doping.
Meanwhile, Swiatek has been miles ahead of everyone else this season. She has over 60 wins this season and has won 8 titles which include 2 grand slam titles and 4 WTA 1000 titles. She sits at the top of the WTA Rankings with over 10000 points and has more than double the points as compared to the World No.2.
She has had the best season on the WTA Tour since Serena Williams‘ 2013 season and has shown the level of consistency that was missing in the women’s game for the last few years. She will now end her season at the WTA Finals in Texas next month.
