WATCH: “Thank you very much!” – Stan Wawrinka STEALS a cup from an interview in Cincinnati after thrashing home favorite Brandon Nakashima
Stanislas Wawrinka repeats his habit of taking back a cup from the Tennis Channel's desk yet again, after his first round win at Cincinnati.
Three-time Grand Slam winner, Stan Wawrinka has begun his Cincinnati Masters campaign with an emphatic win over Brandon Nakashima. The Swiss legend ensured that his participation in the competition was not short-lived after presenting a wonderful display through the first-round encounter. The local lad was held the favorites for the match but Stan pulled a great result despite his bad start to the second set ultimately winning the match by 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
But something very interesting happened at the on-court interview with media outlet Tennis Channel when Stan repeated his habit of taking with him a coffee cup from the table. Stan had his reasons for the action stating that the cups used in America are way more different than those used back in Europe. As he borrowed the cup, the Tennis channel presenter, Prakash introduced him to the viewers by saying, “As you always do.”
Stan explained himself, “This is the American style, that’s why. In Europe, you have the mug, here its this way.” Prakash then asked him, “So you’re going to steal one again?” Stan laughed saying, “Of course. Thank you very much. I am not stealing. You are giving it to me.” Prakash then added, “Listen, for you absolutely, for no other player.”
Where does Stan Wawrinka rank among the all-time greats?
Stan is one of those players who could have tasted success at some point in their careers but failed to capitalize on longevity. If it wasn’t for his inconsistency and injuries, he could have added a couple more Grand Slams under his belt. Many tennis fans regard him as the unseen hero in the sport who was overshadowed to be born in the Big-3 era.
Despite that, he won three Slams during the peak of the Big-3 beating all three at least once en route to his titles. He beat arguably the greatest male player, Novak Djokovic once at the 2015 French Open and another time at the 2016 US Open final.
He beat Rafel Nadal to lift his first ever Grand Slam at the 2014 Australian Open final which also marked the breakthrough season for the Swiss.
