Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his disappointment with the second part of Netflix’s Break Point documentary series. The documentary was set to release on Wednesday (June 21) and ahead of it, Tsitsipas spoke in length about how he has to relive the third-round match against Nick Kyrgios at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship.
Break Point’s first two episodes are about the 2022 Wimbledon, and it also focused on the Aussie’s dream run to his first Grand Slam final. This means the third-round match will also come into focus where Tsitsipas claimed he had some behavior issues because of Kyrgios’ bullying. The Aussie had even asked for Tsitsipas’ disqualification when he hit a ball toward the crowd in frustration.
Tsitsipas recalled that incident, admitting that it was completely immature of him to behave in that manner just because Kyrgios went into his head. Knowing that such stuff can also happen in the future, Tsitsipas said he is now well prepared. At the same time, the Greek expressed his disappointment over Netflix for focusing more on the drama aspect of it.
“I’m not a big fan of the whole production. They could’ve done a significantly better job. I’m a bit disappointed there. What we get here has more to do with gossip and soap opera. That doesn’t belong there in my opinion. It just feels more like a reality TV show,” Tsitsipas was quoted saying by Eurosport. But he understood that Netflix focuses more on such stories because of public demand.
Stefanos Tsitsipas wants Netflix to dive deeper into players’ struggles
Stefanos Tsitsipas wants Netflix to focus more on the players’ struggles and not just on the fights. He believes like him, other players also have the same opinion regarding the Break Point docuseries.
“It’s less about diving deeper into the sport and showing the adversity, the deprivation, the problems, or the pain. Of course, there are passages in which this is presented a bit. But I think these things should be brought much more into focus. That’s what it’s really about,” he added.
Talking about Tsitsipas’s game, he is currently participating in the Halle Open. In his first match, he secured a hard-fought win over Gregoire Barrere 6-7(6-8), 6-4, 7-6(7-3). He will now face Nicolas Jarry today. Both have met twice, winning a match each.
