Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas had been enjoying himself quite well in the last few months before the ATP Finals. He went into the year-end competition high in hopes and boosted in confidence, but the world came crashing down for World No. 6 as he twisted his waist during his second group-stage matchup against Holger Rune.
It was a must-win match for Tsitsipas, as he lost his first match against Jannik Sinner, but this injury not only knocked him out of the competition but also made him unsure about the Australian Open next year.
He recently gave an update on his recovery and thereby cleared up the fact that he is still preparing himself well for Australia. Tsitsipas also added that the injury not only ended his hopes for a second ATP Finals win but also broke him down mentally.
Having not been able to complete the year-end tournament, he said:
The injury was painful – metaphorically painful, because I wasn’t able to complete the last tournament of the year. So, it had a big toll on my body. For the next few days after the ATP Finals, I was struggling to wake up and get out of bed, In fact, the amount of pain I was going through for one to two weeks was very big. It’s looking better; I’m getting better.Stefanos Tsitsipas (H/T: tennisnews.gr)

The tennis professional even hinted about his ways and processes regarding the recovery process and agreed to try new ways to reduce his pain every single day. That’s not all; as per World No. 6 himself, with every new day, he is seeking to be a much more profound and fitter version of himself.
It’s looking better; I’m getting better, I’m doing a lot of things every single day to reduce the pain that I have as much as possible and as quickly as possible to get it back to normal. It will take a little bit of time. I’m still not 1000 per cent.Tsitsipas said
The Greek star has expressed his sole intentions of making it to the Australian Open and even stressed the fact that he is ready to go to any extent to become game-ready for the competition.
Thereby, he also opened up about the negative side of things, saying that if he doesn’t manage to make it to the court by the start of the Australian Open, then things are going to change and that he will have to take a different direction.
