Former World No.4 and tennis analyst Greg Rusedski fired shots at Stefanos Tsitsipas following his straight set loss to Jannik Sinner. Rusedski claimed that the Greek tennis professional was progressing backward, in contrast to his Italian opponent. Tsitsipas has not seen much success in the 2023 season. Barring his title-winning campaign at the Los Cabos Open, he has not had any other titles this year.

Greg Rusedski pointed out the stark contrast between the trajectories of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner’s games. While both players might only have a single rank between them, it was evident at the ATP Finals that Sinner showed more signs of improvement than his opponent.

"You look at both players: Sinner had improved out of sight, Tsitsipas has gone backward, " said Rusedski in an interview with Amazon Prime Video.

The Italian has been having an amazing season this year. He has won four titles this year, including a maiden Masters 1000 title. The former World No.4 claimed that his game was becoming more and more easier to read.

Sinner basically knows what he needs to do to beat this man and it was very one-sided. And Sinner will be absolutely delighted to come through so easily today

While he was critical of Tsitspas’ game, he also acknowledged the improvement on Sinner’s side. The Italian has definitely improved exponentially. From a year-end finish of World No. 15 in 2022, he has climbed the ranks and reached a career-high ranking of No.4.

Rusedski has previously claimed that Tsitsipas will be “the greatest to go down ever”. However, he was contradicting his own appreciation. Rusedski has actively criticized the level of the Greek’s game over the last few months. Following Tsitsipas’ incredible run at the 2022 Australian Open, Rusedski admitted that he is most likely to win the French Open title. However, he seemed highly disappointed in Tsitsipas’ game this year.

Greg Rusedski points out Stefanos Tsitsipas’ split with Mark Philippoussis as the reason for the decline in his game

Tennis pundit Greg Rusedski claimed that it all started going wrong for Stefanos Tsitsipas when he announced the split with former coach Mark Philippoussis. The Greek had fired Philippoussis after his second-round exit at the US Open.

"Mark Philippoussis comes back to the team, he wins in Cabos. And then all of a sudden, their relationship broke down, there wasn't the communication that needed to be there and he isn't the player he once was, " said Rusedski.

Tsitsipas’ backhand slice had gotten worse and he didn’t have the placement at the second serve, according to the British-Canadian.

He also claimed that if Tsitspas does not make the necessary changes, he will have an early exit at the Australian Open. There is also a chance the Greek will fall out of the top 10, according to Rusedski. The former World No.4 emphasized that Tsitsipas had to make some changes, quickly.
