Julia Salnikova, the daughter of a legendary football player, and the mother of the Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas recently took part in an interview with express.ru.

While talking about Tsitsipas, Salnikova spoke about his relationship with the top Russian players on Tour, despite being half-Russian. For the uninitiated, Tsitsipas, a Greek pro, is half-Russian on his mother’s side. The whole family converses in Russian.

Interestingly enough, the tennis world came to know this when the Greek player shouted at his mother to stop shouting in Russian during his match against Daniil Medvedev.

During the interview, Salnikova opened up about her son’s relationship with other Russian players. As per Salnikova herself, the player whom she sincerely respects is none other than Andrey Rublev. 

We have a great attitude towards Andrey Rublev. This is a real person! No, I won’t run to greet him and hug him, outwardly everything is restrained. But if there is a player whom I sincerely respect, it is Andrey. Styopa has a good relationship with Karen Khachanov.

Over the years, Tsitsipas has played with many Russian players, ranging from Alexander Bublik to Daniil Medvedev. Although he is not as fluent in Russian as his brother, Tsitsipas still manages to give interviews in Russian.

In a recent interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother, Julia, spoke highly of her son, revealing his relationship with other Russian players, including on-court rival Daniil Medvedev.

Tsitsipas and Medvedev have one of the most heated matches. With every match closer than before, they have been known to have the best rivalry on the court. However, not many know this, but Tsitsipas’ mother is good friends with Medvedev’s parents, and often the two share texts between them. 

Normal. Probably even better than many people think. My husband and I are friends with his parents. We write messages to each other, congratulations, everything is very touching. Let them decide for themselves what kind of relationship Medvedev has with Tsitsipas.

Furthermore, the former tennis star revealed that she had cheered on Medvedev for the Australian Open and even thought of a congratulatory note to send his parents in between the finals. 

Unfortunately, the tables turned, and it was Jannik Sinner who emerged victorious, trashing the congratulatory message. Nonetheless, the relationship between the two families is good, irrespective of what is going on in court.
