Stefanos Tsitsipas is the fifth seed and will be playing at French Open 2023 after having a decent run in the ongoing clay court swing. The Greek reached the semi-finals of the Rome Masters, where he was ultimately defeated by the eventual champion, Daniil Medvedev, in straight sets. The score line of the match was 7-5, 7-5. Talking about the 1st grand slam of the year, Tsitsipas made it to the final of the Australian Open 2022, where he was beaten by the 22-time grand slam champion, Novak Djokovic, in straight sets. The Serbian won with the score line of 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
The 2021 French Open finalist had a forgettable outing in the 2022 edition as he lost in the fourth round to the then-rising star and present world number 6, Holger Rune, in 4 sets. The score line of the match was 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The clay has been a favorable surface for the Greek and therefore he would be hoping to perform much better than the last year. It will be interesting to see how he goes about it in this year’s French Open.
Tough road ahead for Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas is seeded 5th in the French Open and has a tough road ahead of himself. He will meet the Czech, Jiri Vesely, in the first round. In the second round, the Greek will clash with either Spaniard, Roberto Carballes Baena or a qualifier.
In the 3rd round, Stefanos is most likely to set up a clash with World No. 37, Bernabe Zapata Miralles or Argentine, Diego Schwartzman. The Greek is likely to meet with the Canadian, Felix Auger-Alliassime, or talented American, Sebastian Korda in the 4th round.
If the World No. 5 manages to cross the above hurdles, then he is most likely to play against World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, or the Brit number 1, Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals. The potential semi-final fixture for Tsitsipas would be against 22-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic. If everything goes on course for the 24-year-old, he can meet either 20-year-old, Holger Rune or 2021 US Open Champion, Daniil Medvedev, or 2022 French Open finalist, Casper Ruud.
