Stefanos Tsitsipas has played in 25 finals across the globe over the years on the Tour. These matches include finals of Majors as well as ATP tournaments. However, he has won only nine of them.

The rate of success in the final is unimpressive, to say the least. As he may be glossing over these stats, he is going to play in the final of the Barcelona Open 2023 against Carlos Alcaraz. This is his 26th final of any tournament in his career.

Stefanos Tsitsipas will enter the court as not a favorite to win this match. He has to fight the baggage of past disappointments as well as against the expectations of Carlos Alcaraz will be able to blow him up and clinch his fourth ATP title this season.

However, the Greek is not scared by these thoughts. He wants to fight and is ready for a fight.

Fear is something I don’t have when I go on the court. I have to make adjustments, but otherwise I struggle. To beat him, you have to be better than him. I have to deal with these challenges and difficulties against the best player in the world right now. Carlos has shown in the last two years that he is capable of playing at his best, so that’s another challenge,” Stefanos Tsitsipas said.

He also revealed his approach when he takes on the court against Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal and wants to do the same in this match.

I have to concentrate as much as possible and hope to reach my best level. That’s what happened when I played against Rafa (Nadal) in Madrid, when I played against (Novak) Djokovic on different clay courts. I have to take a step forward, I have no choice,” he continued.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has played against Carlos Alcaraz three times but has lost each in each of those encounters. He is clearly the underdog in this match against the Spaniard.

Although, the Spaniard has lost important matches like the final of the Rio Open against Cameron Norrie and the semi-final of the Miami Open against Jannik Sinner this season, however, it has mostly been when he was struggling with fitness issues. He entered the Barcelona Open fresh after staying out of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Hence, the chances of him winning against Stefanos Tsitsipas are greater.

But the Greek tennis professional can disturb the rhythm of Carlos Alcaraz and can cause trouble for him over the clay surface. It is expected that this encounter will be a thriller. It will be interesting to watch if Carlos Alcaraz takes the title or if Stefanos Tsitsipas will be able to save himself from choking again to emerge victorious.
