21-year-old American Amanda Anisimova was in tears after losing her first-round match to Ukrainian Yulia Putintseva in straight sets 3-6,3-6 at the 2022 US Open. Anisimova, who had a very good season so far struggled a lot in the North American swing including Toronto and Cincinnati.

She had some injury concerns entering the US Open but didn’t pull out of the tournament. During the first-round match, she even took a medical timeout but when she lost, she couldn’t hold her tears back. Later in the day, she took to social media to share the reason for her loss.

She revealed that she broke her toe last week in Cincinnati and did every possible thing to be ready for the US Open. She said that she was playing the match on injections but the pain got better of her and hence she couldn’t win the match.

“Damn the last couple of weeks have been tough. I broke my toe in Cincinnati last week, and I’ve done everything I could to get ready for the Open. I’m proud of myself for giving myself a chance and playing the whole match. Even with getting injections in my foot that hurt more than the actual injury that I’m still recovering from lol,” Anisimova wrote.
