“S***ty low class can’t be a Nadal fan without cheating” Iga Swiatek gets hammered on social media for distracting her opponent once again with her ‘weird’ antics in the San Diego Open final
Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek has been the best player this season by a mile. She has shown the consistency that was unseen in the women’s game in the last few years. She has won 8 titles this season which includes 2 grand slam titles and 4 WTA 1000 titles. She recently won the San Diego Open after she defeated Donna Vekic in the final in three sets 6-3,3-6,6-0.
But during the final, she once again did something which is frowned upon and could be termed as a hindrance- which is not allowed according to the rules. During one of the rallies, Swiatek came to the net and while Vekic was hitting the shot, she raised both her arms trying to distract Vekic from completing the shot.
This was not the first time Swiatek has done this. She received a lot of backlash from the tennis community when she did the same on multiple occasions previously this year. This was probably the 5th time she was doing this and has been rightly called out for distracting her opponent and showing unsportsmanlike conduct.
Jason Goodall, a former tennis player also pointed out that she is doing this to distract Vekic which is against the rules. “What’s that there? She’s just trying to put Vekic off. It’s no need for it. Seems to me to be a little unsportsman,” she said.

As much as they love her, tennis fans on social media were very upset with Swiatek’s unnecessary antics. They put light on the fact that what she’s doing is against the rules and should be penalized for the same. Some even termed this act as cheating and compared her to her idol, Rafael Nadal, whose serve delay is also called cheating by some fans.
