Sumit Nagal recently set the record for his ambitions for Indian tennis after taking the tennis world by storm with his laudable first-round victory at the 2024 Australian Open.
Furthermore, Nagal scripted history by becoming the first Indian tennis professional to overpower a seeded player, namely Alexander Bublik, at a Grand Slam event. The longstanding record dates back to 1989, when Ramesh Krishnan defeated Mats Wilander.

Following his rousing triumph, the 26-year-old reserved some words for his vision for Indian tennis and voiced his goals for uplifting the sport in the country.
If you look at it, there was a time where we had a lot of singles players playing in the slams. I feel like we are missing quite a bit in the last few years, & my goal is to change that in the next years.
Nagal said in a post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, three other Indians, including Rohan Bopanna, N. Prashanth, and A. Chandrasekar, will be witnessed in action on Thursday, January 18.

Sumit Nagal addresses systematic changes for Indian tennis at the 2024 Australian Open
In the same post-match on-court interview, Indian tennis professional Sumit Nagal provided insight into the systematic changes required for Indian tennis to excel in the singles category of the ATP Tour.

First to have more tournaments in the country, bring coaches in, better facilities. Just a better system, I would say. Why are all tennis players - singles I'm talking about - going outside India & living outside India to give themselves a chance? We should ask why. Like I said, of course, we can sit here all day & talk about it. But in a simple word I will just say it’s change the system. That’s it.spoke Nagal.
The World No. 137 will next take on wildcard entree Shang Juncheng for a place in the third round of the Australian Open on Thursday, January 18.
