The United Cup, hosted by Australia, featured 18 teams that battled each other in their respective groups for the trophy.

Over the last couple of weeks, many teams were eliminated as the tournament went on, but Team Poland remained unbeaten as they became the first team to enter the finals of the prestigious tournament.

The Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz-led teams entered the tournament with eyesight on the upcoming Olympics as they worked on their camaraderie and soon became one of the dominant teams of the 2023–24 draw. Poland was the first team to enter the quarterfinals, where they beat a feeble team, China, 3-0 to take on France in the semis.

World number 9 Hurkacz set the tone with a resolute 6-3, 7-5 win over France’s Adrian Mannarino. This victory ensured a spot in the finals for the Poland team, but that wasn’t confirmed until they won the match against the fiery Caroline Garcia

It was the queen of comebacks, Iga Swiatek, who booked Poland’s ticket to the finals. From a set down against France’s best player, Garcia, Swiatek roared back in the second set and showed her masterclass to win the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. This ensured Poland would be the first team to reach the finals of the United Cup.

Top-seeded Poland kept their reputation throughout the games as they almost whitewashed every other team in the last two weeks. Their top performer, Iga Swiatek, continues to remain unbeaten in the tournament in both singles and mixed doubles matches.

In the recent match, she was down a set before coming back to win the match.

I was making bad decisions and I needed to be more composed“After the break after the first set, I came back more focused, so I’m pretty proud of myself.
Said Iga Swiatek.

This win enabled Poland to be in their first United Cup finals.

However, as the tournament required, Poland had to play the mixed-couple game as well. This time, from the Polish camp, entered the duo of Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zieliński for a change.

They played the last game for Poland before the finals and finished their semi-final leg on a high as they won the match 6-3, 6-3 and ensured a smooth 3-0 win for Poland.

With the Olympics later on in the year, all the teams use this tournament as a mode to practice and prepare their team for the all-important games.
