The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has announced the names for the ATP Awards 2022 in various categories. The categories include- Comeback Player of the Year, New Comer of the Year, Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, and Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

Many players have got nominations in more than one category. However, some players were unable to secure the nomination in any of the four categories.

Taylor Fritz was nominated in none of the categories. He is quite disappointed. He took to social media to state his opinions.

“Feel like I could’ve been nominated for most improved…. not saying I should win it or anything crazy like that but maybe just a nom,” his caption read.

As a consolation, his coach Michael Russell has been nominated for the ATP Coach of the Year Award.

Taylor Fritz played splendidly this season. He was able to win 3 ATP singles titles this season.

He started the season with participation in the ATP Cup for Team USA. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. This is the first time he reached such an advanced stage of any Grand Slam in his career. He also breached into the Top 20 for the first time in his career.

He won his career’s first ATP 1000 singles title by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final. He broke Nadal’s 20-match straight-wins record. He could not do much in the French Open as he was knocked out in the second round of the tournament. He came back strongly to reach the quarter-finals round for the first time in his career. He played an exciting match against Rafael Nadal but lost.

He won his third ATP singles title this year after defeating Frances Tiafoe in the final of the Japan Open. This performance helped him to reach his career-high ranking of No.8. When Carlos Alcaraz got injured Taylor Fritz got entry into the prestigious tournament. Here, he defeated Rafael Nadal and Felix Auger-Aliassime to book a spot in the semi-finals. Here, he lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.

Taylor Fritz finished the year as World No.9 in the ATP rankings. He improved his game to compete against the best and even beat them. The Most Improved Player of the Year is given to the player who has shown the greatest improvement in his performance throughout the season. Social media also agrees with him. World No.1 and 2022 US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, Frenchman Maxime Cressy, 2022 Paris Masters champion Holger Rune and British Jack Draper are nominated for the Most Improved Player Award. Both fans and ATP players can vote for the winner in the respective categories.
