American tennis player Tennys Sandgren recently defended Novak Djokovic in a Twitter thread that was started by Bastien Fachan, who claimed that the Serb was outcome-oriented while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have always been process-oriented. The American went on to praise the World No. 1 for always honoring his ideals ahead of trophies.

A fan brought Tennys Sandgren’s attention to the tweet in concern and it was then that he replied to it by writing: “Every successful person on the planet uses process AND outcome based incentives”. Bastien Fachan stuck to his claim by saying that at least the Serb is more outcome-oriented than the other two, to which Sandgren gave a savage reply. “You mean the guy willing to sacrifice the opportunity to play for ideals he holds higher than trophies?,” he said.

Tennys Sandgren clearly gave a throwback to 2019, when Novak Djokovic decided to sit out of a number of major tournaments, including Grand Slams like the Australian Open and the US Open, just because of his stand against compulsory vaccination for the COVID-19 virus. The tennis authorities had made it clear back then that the Serb would not be allowed to play in the tournaments if he did not get vaccinated and it was then that Novak gave preference to his freedom of choice, dividing the tennis World in opinions.

Novak Djokovic gave a fitting reply to the people who had banned him from the tournaments recently by winning the 2023 US Open. He did so by defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final and ended up lifting his 24th Grand Slam in the process.
