Australian tennis star and doubles partner of Nick Krygios, Thanasi Kokkinakis recently sat for an interview session where he expressed an interest in playing in Saudi Arabia and about the sport’s takeover by the Arab country. He gave his verdict on the total possible takeover by Saudi Arabia and also the disadvantages of a rumored merger between the men’s and women’s circuits.
Kokkinakis feels that the money will be beneficial for the sport and has good expectations for Saudi Arabia’s plans for the sport. He also stated that the idea behind helping the tennis stars with money is great and also termed that money is beneficial for the sport if reality is considered. He said, “Any offer that makes the game grow, that makes players earn the money they are really worth, is welcome.”
He added, “If people in Saudi Arabia want to invest in tennis, I think it’s great for the game. Obviously, you play for the love of the game, we have a lot of fantastic events and you don’t want to lose the culture of the Grand Slams, just like other classic events. If they are willing to come and help finance the players, go ahead, tennis is a very difficult sport. Money here is very important, that is the reality.”
