Currently ranked 5th in the world, Rafael Nadal is into his 14th French Open final by reaching the finals of the 2022 French Open eyeing his 14th title at the Grand Slam which will take his tally to 22 majors, a 2-major lead over arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer who are both currently tied in the second place with 20 majors each to their names.

While the Grand Slam title race is just one of the numerous records that Nadal holds in tennis history, the Spaniard has broken a plethora of records, especially at the Roland Garros. Apart from being a 13-time champion at the tournament, he also holds the distinction of not having lost a single final and it wasn’t until the 2021 French Open that he had lost in a semi-final.

Currently making his 18th appearance at the Grand Slam, in the past 17 seasons, he has suffered a mere 3 defeats with the first coming to Robin Soderling in the fourth round of the 2009 French Open where he was the 4-time defending champion winning every title since his tournament debut in 2005. He then went on a streak of five consecutive titles before he was defeated in the quarter-finals of the 2015 French Open by Djokovic. In 2016 he was forced to give a walkover due to an injury prior to the commencement of the match.

From 2017 to 2020, he again won four consecutive titles before Djokovic defeated him in the semi-finals once again becoming the only player to beat the Spaniard twice at the Roland Garros. Ahead of the 2022 French Open finals, Nadal has a record of 111-3 in 114 matches at the Grand Slam, a winning percentage of 97.36.

18-time singles Grand Slam champion and 2-time French Open winner Martina Navratilova currently holds the record for most wins at a single Grand Slam having won a total of 120 matches at the Wimbledon Championships. Martina continues to remain the most decorated singles champion in Wimbledon with her 9 titles tailed closely by Federer with his 8 titles.

The 9 titles have seen Martina have a 120-14 record at the Championships, making Nadal 10 wins short of breaking that record. With one Grand Slam offering only 7 matches to the finalists, Nadal would need to make at least two deep runs in the French Open to break Martina‘s record but the American sees the Spaniard make it. “That record will go down before Rafa is done for sure:), and I am so ok with it!,” said Martina replying to a Nadal fan account.
