Rafael Nadal and his wife, Maria Francisca Perello are one the simplest and most low-key tennis couples on the tour and it has been the case for the last few years. Nadal and Xisca, who are now expecting their first child, started dating 18 years ago and were teenage sweethearts.

Xisca has been one of the backbones of Nadal’s team and has played a very integral part in his success over the last two decades. After dating for 15 years, the couple got married in 2019 in a private ceremony.

Nadal in general is a very soft-spoken person and is rarely seen snapping at people both on and off the court. Probably the last time Nadal was furious was back in 2019 in a press conference where he lost to Alexander Zverev at the ATP Finals.

Italian reporter Ubaldo Scanagatta questioned Nadal about his loss and asked him whether his marriage could be termed as the reason for his loss. He said that Nadal may have gotten distracted due to his marriage.

“Tonight, you were playing very short many times ― I don’t know why you’re not used to that. I’d like to know, for many people to get married is a very important, distracting thing. Before the marriage, during the marriage, and after the marriage. Your concentration on tennis life has been [a] bit different even if you were going out with the same girl for many, many years,” he asked Nadal.

Nadal was very furious with the reporter’s question and with a death stare, asked him whether he was being serious or was he joking. “Honestly, are you asking me this? Is this a serious question or a joke? Is it serious? Yeah?” he asked.

He clarified that he has been with the same girl for over 15 years and marriage doesn’t change anything. He then laughed at how silly the question was and called it bulls**t.

“It’s a big surprise you’re asking me this after being with the same girl for 15 years and having a very stable and normal life. It doesn’t matter if you put a ring on your finger or not. In my personal way. I am a very normal guy,” Nadal smiled. “OK. We move to Spanish, because that’s bulls**t,” he moved on.”
