Swedish former world No. 1 Mats Wilander, in a brief statement conferred by him following the events at the ongoing US Open expressed his thoughts and insight on how the global tennis community is on the verge of entering a new era, which comes into consideration after witnessing the rise of new talent.

The Flushing championship this year was exempted from being blessed by the presence of two professionals from The Big Three, namely Roger Federer and the Serb, Novak Djokovic. Mats Wilander, who won the French Open at the young age of 17, in a concise statement explained how the new faces of the upcoming tennis generation are signed up to the mark and groomed well enough for the world to accept them as speculated worldwide at the US Open by quoting “we’ve realized that the men’s circuit has enormous depth. There are new faces fighting for big things and that is something very much needed in this sport. I think the big three hegemony has lasted long enough.”

Wilander upon delegating his thoughts on The Big Three focused on the fact that despite their absence, the championship nonetheless was able to yield a good show. “We are already in a generational change. Of course, this was due to other external factors. Roger Federer is still injured, Rafael Nadal didn’t have enough time to be 100% ready for the tournament and Novak Djokovic couldn’t play because he wasn’t vaccinated.”
