Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur is high on confidence after beating Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the 2024 Australian albeit in a charity match. The 24-year-old is hoping to transcend his momentum into the main tournament when it kicks off on 14 January. Minaur says he sees the sky as the limit for him now.

The Australian beat Alcaraz 6-4, 5-7, (10-3) in a thrilling encounter. With this, de Minaur registered his fourth win over a top 10 player as the Australian had eased past Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz at the 2024 United Cup. These wins have worked as a massive boost for the Australian who hopes to lift his maiden Grand Slam title in front of his home crowd.

The Australian says that he has been pushing himself every day to do better and 2024 has been a good start for de Minaur. The 24-year-old hopes to keep the momentum going and reach new heights in his tennis career.

We’ll just have to wait and see … I heard a pretty good quote: ‘How big would you dream if you knew you couldn’t fail?’ That’s been the motto, I’m pushing myself every day and hopefully the sky’s the limit. I’m extremely happy … my level is in a good spot coming into Melbourne. 2024 has been very good to me, hopefully, I can keep it going.

Rafter is pleased with the improvements de Minaur has made to his game. The former Australian said that he was pleased to see the 24-year-old beating Alexander Zverev.

The match he played against Zverev, I thought, hang on, this kid’s starting to really get it. To beat Zverev when he’s at his top and now he [de Minaur] is top 10. If anything he’s probably just become a fraction more patient. He’s backing himself a bit more. Not making as many mistakes, backing himself a bit more to stay in rallies.
Pat Rafter said to AAP.

Notably, Alex de Minaur is seeded tenth at the 2024 Australian Open and has been drawn in the second quarter with Jannik Sinner, Andrey Rublev, Sebastian Korda, and Frances Taifoe. The Australian will face Milos Raonic in the first round.
