Serena Williams, former World number 1, advanced into the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto defeating Nuria Parrizas in straight sets to claim her first singles win since the French Open in 2021. She had made her return to the court at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship as a wild-card entrant after being away for a span of twelve months. She has played a major role in making revolutionary transformations for women’s tennis and has inspired millions over her career which lasted for more than two decades.

The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion made her mark after winning her first major title at the US Open in the year 1999. She along with her sister Venus Williams has been a force to reckon where they went to win every possible title at the peaks of their career. The Williams sisters duo are the most recent players to have simultaneously held all four major women’s doubles titles.

She revealed her future plans post-retirement where she looks to spend her time with her family and discover a new life. She will play her last match at the US Open in front of her home crowd. Upon her retirement announcement, fans from all over the world went crazy and expressed their disbelief. Some even got very emotional to find their champion playing her last few matches and revealed that the champion will be dearly missed.
